Needlework & Craft, Fall/Winter 1971-72 TOP LEFT: Pants Suit

 

SIZE: Fits 11-1/2" fashion doll.

MATERIALS: Mercerized knitting and crochet cotton, dark green, main color (MC) for pants and jacket, light green, contrasting color (CC), for jacket; small amounts of yellow (A), variegated cotton (B), rose (C), and white

(D) for shell.
Steel crochet hook No. 6.
Snap fastener.
Two small beads.

GAUGE: 9 dc = 1" (pants). One motif = 1" square (jacket). Shell motif = 2-1/2" square.

 

 

PANTS: With MC, beg at top edge, ch 34.
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook (counts as 2 dc), dc in each remaining ch-32 dc. Ch 3, turn.
Row 2: Dc in first dc (an inc), * dc in each of next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc, repeat from * across, dc in top of ch 3--38 dc. Ch 3, turn.
Row 3:  Dc in first dc (an inc), * dc in each of next 6 dc, 2 dc in next dc, repeat from * across, dc in last dc, dc in top of ch 3--44 dc.  Ch 3, turn.
Row 4: Dc in first dc (an inc), * dc in each of next 8 dc, 2 dc in next dc, repeat from * 3 times, dc in each of last 6 dc, 2 dc in top of ch 3--50 dc. Ch 3, turn.
Row 5: Dc in first dc, dc in each dc across, 2 dc in top of ch 3--52 dc. Ch 3, turn.
Divide for Legs: Row 6: Dc in first dc, dc in each of next 25 dc. Ch 3, turn.
Row 7: Sk first dc, dc in each of next 10 dc, ch 1, sk 2 dc, 3 dc in next dc, ch 1, sk 2 dc, dc in each of next 10 dc, dc in top of turning ch. Ch 3, turn.
Row 8: Sk first dc, dc in each of next 10 dc, ch 1, 3 dc in center of 3-dc group, ch 1, dc in each of next 10 dc, dc in top of turning ch.  Ch 3, turn.
Row 9: Repeat row 8.                                                                                                            Row 10: Dc in first dc, dc in each of next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in each of next 5 dc, ch 1, 3 dc in center dc of 3-dc group, ch 1, dc in each of next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in each of next 4 dc, 2 dc in top of turning ch. Ch 3, turn.
Rows 11-21: Work even in pat on 13 dc, shell, 13 dc.
Row 22: Work dc in each dc and ch 1 across--31 dc. End off.
Attach MC at crotch, work other leg the same.
FINISHING: Work 3 rows of sc across top edge for waistband. Sew leg seams and back seam for 1 row above crotch. Work 2 rows of sc around back opening. Close top with snap fastener.

JACKET: MOTIF (make 22): With CC, ch 4.
Rnd 1: 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, * ch 2, 3 dc in same ch, repeat from * twice, ch 2, sl st in top of first ch. End off.
Rnd 2: Join MC in any ch-2 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, ch 2, 3 dc in same sp, * 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in next ch-2 sp, repeat from * twice, sl st in top of ch 3. End off.
FINISHING: Sew 3 motifs tog in a row for each front. Sew 6 motifs tog, 3 motifs wide by 2 motifs high, for back to armholes; sew back to fronts along underarm seams. Sew 2 motifs tog for top of back. Centering seam between these 2 motifs on back, sew to top edge of back, leaving 1/2 motif free each side for armholes. Sew shoulder seams leaving 1/2 of each front motif free at center for neck edge. 
Sew 4 motifs tog in a square for each sleeve. Fit one edge of square into armhole; sew in place; sew sleeve seam. With MC, work 1 row sc all around jacket.

SHELL: BACK: With A, ch 4.
Rnd 1: 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, * ch 1, 3 dc in same ch, repeat from * twice, ch 1, sl st in top of first ch. End off.
Rnd 2: Join B in any ch-1 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, ch 1, 3 dc in same sp, 8 (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next ch-1 sp, repeat from * twice, sl st in top of ch 3. End off.
Rnd 3: Join C in any ch-1 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, ch 1, 3 dc in same sp, * 3 dc in sp between shells, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next ch-1 sp, repeat from * twice, 3 dc in sp between shells, sl st in top of ch 3. End off.
Rnd 4: Join D in any ch-1 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, ch 1, 3 dc in same sp, * 3 dc in each of next 2 sps, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next ch-1 sp, repeat from * twice, 3 dc in each of last 2 sps, sl st in top of ch 3. Sl st to ch-1 sp.
Rnd 5: Work as for rnd 4, having 3 groups of 3 dc between corners.
Rnd 6: Work sc in each dc around, 3 sc in each corner. End off.

SHELL: FRONT: Work as for back through rnd 5.
Rnd 6: Work sc in each dc to corner, 3 sc in corner, ch 5 for buttonloop, sc in each dc to next corner, ch 5 for buttonloop, 3 sc in corner, finish rnd as for rnd 6 of back.
FINISHING: Sew back and front tog, beg 1/2" up from bottom edge and sewing for 1". Sew beads to top edge of back opposite buttonloops.


TOP RIGHT: Belted Dress

SIZE: Fits 11-1/2" fashion doll.
MATERIALS: Mercerized knitting and crochet cotton, 1
ball each of red (R) and white (W).

Steel crochet hook size 5.
Small snap fastener.
GAUGE: 4 pats = 1"

DRESS: FONT: Beg at top of dress, with W, ch 52.
Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook, * (hdc, ch 1, hdc) in next ch, sk 1 ch, repeat from * across, end hdc in last ch--25 pats plus hdc each side. Ch 2, turn.
Row 2: * (Hdc, ch 1, hdc) in ch-1 sp of next pat, repeat from * across, hdc in last st. Ch 1, turn.
Rows 3-7: Repeat row 2. End off W. Turn.
Row 8: Sk 6 pats, join R in last hdc of 7th pat, ch 1, hdc in st where thread was joined, work 11 pats across, hdc in last st; ch 1, turn. Work in pat on 11 pats until piece is 4-1/2" from color change. End off.

BACK: FIRST HALF: With W, ch 28. Work as for front on 13 pats for 7 rows. End off W. Turn. Join R and work as for row 8 of front making 6 pats across. Work even for 5 more rows, end at side edge. End off. Make another piece the same for 2nd half; do not end off. Lap center edge of piece for right half over 1 pat at center edge of 2nd half so that there are 11 pats across row. Work even in pat on 11 pats until back is same length as front. End off.

FINISHING: With matching threads, sew shoulder seams, leaving 1-1/2" free at center front and back for neckline; sew sleeve and side seams.

BELT LOOPS: Attach R to front near side seam, slightly below waistline. Ch 6, sl st 1/2" above; ch 1, work 6 hdc over ch; end off. Work same loop on other siee of front.

BELT: With R, ch 86. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. End off. Join W, sc in each sc across. End off.


BOTTOM CENTER: Shell-Stitch Dress

SIZE: Fits 11-1/2" fashion doll.
MATERIALS: Mercerized knitting and crochet cotton, 1
ball each of pink (P), white (W) and dark rose (R).

Steel crochet hook no. 6 or 7.
Two small snap fasteners.
GAUGE: 2 shells = 1"

DRESS: Beg at neck edge, with P, ch 26.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across--25 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in first sc, * ch 1, sk next sc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next sc, ch 1, sk next sc, sc in next sc,
repeat from * across.
Row 3: (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 sp of each shell across, dc in top of turning ch. Ch 3, turn.
Row 4: (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in each ch-2 sp across, dc in top of turning ch--12 shells. Cut P. Join W.
Ch 3, turn.
Row 5: Shell in each of first 2 shells, ch 3, sk 2 shells, shell in each of next 4 shells., ch 3, sk 2 shells,
shell in each of last 2 shells, dc in top of turning ch. Ch 3, turn.
Row 6: Shell in each of first 2 shells, dc in center ch of ch 3, shell in each of next 4 shells, dc in center
ch of ch 3, shell in each of last 2 shells, dc in top of turning ch--8 shells. Ch 3, turn.
Rows 7-9: Shell in each shell across, dc in top of turning ch, ch 3, turn. Cut W at end of row 9. Join R. Ch 3, turn.
Rows 10 and 11: With R, work as for row 7. Cut R at end of row 11. Join W. Ch 3, turn.
Row 12: Repeat row 3. Cut W. Join P. Ch 3, turn.                                                                       Row 13: Shell in each ch-2 sp across, dc in top of turning ch--16 shells. Ch 3, turn. Rows 14-17: Repeat row 13.

FINISHING: Sew back seam from lower edge to row 9. Close back with snap fasteners.
