MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Nantuk Sweater & Afghan Yarn (2 oz. pull skeins) 7 skeins PLUS Small amounts of brown, avocado and blue
Boye Crochet Hook Size J
Back: Starting at lower edge, ch 59.
Row 1: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, * ch 2, skip 2 ch, 1 sc in next ch, repeat from * across, ch 3, turn.
Row 2: 2 hdc group in each ch-2 space, end 1 dc in last sc, ch 5, turn.
Row 3: 1 sc before next group for inc, * ch 2, 1 sc before next group, repeat from * across, end 1 sc, ch 2 and 1 sc in last space for an inc, ch 3, turn.
Row 4: 2 hdc group in each ch-2 space, end 2 hdc and 1 dc in last space, ch 5, turn. Repeat Rows 3 & 4 until there are 37 pats, end with Row 3.
Work even as follows: Row 1: 2 hdc group in each ch-2 space, ch 3, turn.
Row 2: 1 sc in space between first and 2nd groups, * ch 2, 1 sc before next group, repeat from * across, end ch 2, 1 sc in turning ch, ch 3, turn. Repeat Rows 1 & 2 to 21 inches from start, end with Row 2.
Neck & Shoulder: Work 14 groups, turn and work 1 row, turn and work 11 groups, fasten off. Skip 9 groups on last long row, join yarn and work other side.
Front: Work same as back for 14 inches, end with Row 2.
Divide for Neck: Work 19 groups, turn and work on the 19 pats to 21 inches from start, end with Row 2. Shape shoulder same as on back. Join yarn in same space as last pat worked on last long row. Work another pat in same space and finish other side.
Sew shoulder seams. Fold in 1 pat at each side of opening and sew to wrong side.
Leaves: With Avocado-ch 13. 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next ch, 1 hdc in next ch, 1 dc in each of next 2, 1 tr in each of next 2, 1 dc in each of next 2, 1 hdc in next ch, 1 sc in each of next 2, ch 1 then working along other side 1 sc in each of next 2, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in each of next 2, 1 tr in each of next 2, 1 dc in each of next 2, 1 hdc in next, 1 sc in each of next 2, fasten off. Make 5 more Avocado and 9 Blue. Sew as pictured, then embroider outline sts in double Brown as shown. With double avocado embroider line around neckline.
TO MAKE FRINGE: Cut strands as directed. Fold in half and draw fold through edge then draw ends through loop and tighten. Trim evenly when complete.
For this poncho: Use six 14-inch strands spaced about 1 inch apart.
